Thom McFadden

Thom grew up in Texas as Tommy Lee McFadden, a long way from Hollywood. But it was in Hollywood that he spent four decades as a working actor, appearing in films and across more than a hundred television series, including General Hospital, where he played Red Flynn, along with Dallas, Knots Landing, Falcon Crest, and The X-Files. Southern California is also where he and Nancy, his wife of more than forty years, raised their family.

What came afterward shaped this platform more than the acting did. Thom became a coach. First for actors, then for executives, entrepreneurs, and people with no connection to the industry at all. He wrote Acting for Real, published in 2006 by Lifestand Books, the same company behind NowAskJesus today, and later Stop Acting Your Age. For most of his working life, his job has been to sit with someone while they find the words for something they arrived unable to say.

Anyone who has done that work long enough learns the same thing. People rarely walk in with a clear question. They walk in with a weight. They circle it, apologize for taking up the time, talk around the edges of it. And then somewhere in the middle of the conversation, the real question finally surfaces — the one underneath the one they came in with.

Why this exists

Across all those years of coaching, Thom kept running into something that success alone could never solve. People can be surrounded by others and still feel lonely, uncertain, afraid, or without direction. He also saw the limits of what coaching could reach. Some of what people carry is heavier than confidence exercises and career strategy.

Some of those questions never come out at all. They are too personal for church. Too complicated for the people who love you. Too heavy to hand to someone who would worry.

Thom believes that when life becomes difficult — when we are lonely, worried, grieving, searching for purpose, or simply wondering what to do next — people should be able to turn to the wisdom and teachings of Jesus, and that finding those words shouldn't require knowing where to look or having the perfect question ready.

So the platform was built around a simple idea: you should not need the right words, the right question, or the right frame of mind to begin. You can arrive with the whole mess. Type it the way you would actually say it, at two in the morning if that is when it gets loud, and let the conversation help you find the question underneath.
